It is important to be organized when moving your house for the first time. Planning strategically is key when moving to a different home. Each hour of each day must be utilized efficiently. Without strategic planning, time is often insufficient which can lead to numerous problems both before and after Moving Day.
One of the hardest things to do when you are moving houses is to organize all the tasks that must be completed before you leave.
You will need a moving schedule to make things easier and organize your time before you move. Moving timelines are a list of tasks that you must complete in order to move.
Our checklist for moving starts 4 weeks prior to move-out day.
1. Begin searching for a house/apartment that meets your needs. Also consider what type of property is available to you.
2. You must decide whether to hire a professional moving firm or if you will do it yourself. This is an important decision as it will impact how you prepare for the move.
3. Get estimates from top-rated movers to get a clear idea of the cost of your move. You can use estimates to help you decide what type of move you can afford, and what services you are able to hire.
4. You can let the movers know if there are any additional services you need, such as packing, disassembly and temporary storage (delayed delivery), or other items. They will determine the price for the additional services and add them to the moving cost estimates.
5. Create a detailed inventory of your house by listing all household items. Next, look closely at your home inventory sheet and determine which items are being moved with you and which you want to leave behind.
6. Continue packing. Start packing from the hardest rooms.
7. Cancel service at the existing location and contact the service providers in new city or town to connect the main home utilities. It is important to ensure that you have water and electricity at your new location.
